Cargo insurance · Broker heritage since 2007 · Portland river port

One group, one responsibility from your dock to the last signature

Faktorik started as an insurance broker arguing with underwriters on behalf of shippers. Today the group writes the cover itself: full invoice value for furniture and oversize freight, food and beverage, bikes and medical consumables, on every road, rail, river and ocean leg. When something goes wrong, one company answers for the claim.

A rate for your lanes before the next truck is booked

Send us the commodity, your monthly volume, the legs it travels and the carrier on each one. A Faktorik underwriter comes back within one working day with a per-shipment rate and a policy wording you can read without a lawyer.

Transit protection

A carrier’s declared value stops at its own liability cap, a few dollars per pound on most tariffs. Faktorik pays the invoice: a container of flat-pack dining tables railing in from the coast, or a reefer of craft cider barged down the Columbia, covered from your dock to the buyer’s.

Damage & loss cover

A forklift tine through a crate of surgical gloves. Condensation inside a container of bike frames after a fortnight at sea. Twelve cases of wine that left the sort hub and never scanned again. A sofa with a torn arm after its second hand-off. Lost or damaged on any leg, it is paid under one policy.

Claims handling

Call the 24/7 line, send the photos and the signed delivery note, and watch the file move. The group that wrote the cover also settles the claim, so there is nobody to pass you to: 97% of files are paid within 30 days.

Twenty-one offices, close to the docks

Faktorik began as an insurance broker in Copenhagen in 2007 and spun its cargo book into a dedicated underwriter in 2010. The US head office opened on Portland’s river port in 2014. Underwriters and adjusters now work from 21 offices across North America and Europe, close to the docks and rail yards where cargo changes hands.

Carrier surcharges come from the published FedEx and UPS declared-value tables. Your own figure will move with any carrier discount you have negotiated, and with what you ship and where it goes.

One policy, whoever hauls the goods

One policy follows the goods across parcel networks, LTL and full truckload, rail wagons, river barges and ocean containers leaving the U.S., Canada or the U.K.

Six shippers on how their claims were paid

A flatbed carrying eleven oak dining sets tipped on the I-84 grade east of The Dalles. Faktorik had an adjuster at the recovery yard the next day. He made the salvage call so we did not have to, and the full invoice value was in our account in twenty-two days.

Read the loss data before you book the lane

Each quarter our underwriters write up what the claims files show: which rail yards are producing the most crush damage, where low water is holding up barges, which sort hubs are losing cartons, and how a pallet should be wrapped so the file closes in a week instead of a month. They are written for the people who book the freight.

River and rail: what the inland legs do to your loss ratio

Barge and rail moves are cheap and slow, and the losses look different: fewer thefts, more water and shunting damage. What that means for the deductible you carry and the handover paperwork you should insist on.

The four photographs that settle a damage claim in a week

Most delays in a claims file trace back to one missing picture. Our adjusters list what to shoot at the door, what the driver must sign, where to keep the packaging, and how to hold the goods until a surveyor has seen them.
